Platform Lift:
In multi-storied buildings, it becomes difficult and exhausting to climb the stairs to reach upper floor. For this purpose, an arrangement or mechanical device which is used to take you to upper floor, or it helps you to move upward, is called a lift or platform lift. It is a machine which provides service to the people to move to higher floor. Unique feature of platform lift is that it has controls of the lift, within the lift, which allows an individual to operate it individually. Basic difference between platform lifts and elevators is that of price, whereas, purpose of the use of both is same. Platform lifts are available at much lesser price than the elevator. There are two types of platform lifts available, one is vertical and second is inclined. Vertical lifts, move straight up and down and are cost-effective, and are not fully enclosed. Inclined platforms are suitable for open spaces, and has a large platform.
Patient Lifting Hoist:
An assistive device, which allows patients and
those people who are home treated, to be transferred between bed and chair, by
use of electrical or hydraulic power, is known as patient lifting hoist. Sling
lifts are used for patients, who have limited mobility, which may be mobile
lifts or overhead lifts. Such lifts have many advantages, such as, it allows
transfer of heavy patients and hence decreases stress on caretakers, and it
will also reduce the number of nursing staff requirement. Another advantage of
these lifts is that, it reduces the chances of injury, which may be caused from
lifting of patients. There is one more type of lift called ceiling lift, and it
can be installed permanently on the ceiling of the room, and such installation
can save space also.
Traction Machine Lifts:
Another type of lifts are traction machine
lifts, which are very simple systems, in which a motor is attached to a
toothed pulley, over which a rope or cable is looped. Traction machine lifts,
also called traction elevator, are most commonly used elevators, in which
elevator cars are pulled by means of rolling steel ropes, and the weight of car
is balanced by a counterweight. Another way to do so is that, there are two
elevators are so connected that, their cars move in opposite direction and both
act as counterweight of each other. There are two types of traction machines,
one is geared traction machines and second is gearless traction machines.
